SLC = Single-Level Cell. That is 1 bit per cell, 1 memory storage unit can store 1 bit of data, and there are only two charging values, 0 and 1.
MLC adopts a two-layer design. That is, each unit stores 2 bits of data at the same time.
P/E (the number of times the flash memory particles are stored) is about 3K to 30K. There are 4 storage states, namely 00, 01, 10, and 11.
By analogy, TLC = Triple-Level Cell, that is, 3 bit per cell, one memory storage unit can store 3 bits of data.
Service life:
SLC SD card use both positive and negative charges. A floating gate stores 1 bit of information, with a life span of about 100,000 erases and writes.
MLC SD use charges of different potentials, and a floating gate stores 2 bits of information, with a life span of about 10,000 erasing and writing.
The capacity from SLC to MLC is doubled, and the life span is shortened to 1/10.
TLC use charges of different potentials, and a floating gate stores 3 bits of information.
It has a life span of about 500-1000 erasing times. The capacity from MLC to TLC is twice as large, and the life span is shortened to 1/20.
However the performance of TLC is the worst.
